BEIRUT-SABA
Yemen's Ambassador to Lebanon, Abdullah Al-Duais, met on Sunday with Lebanese Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Ambassador Abdel Sattar Issa to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance coordination between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Duais briefed the Lebanese official on the latest developments in Yemen, focusing on what he described as a violation of the country's sovereignty by Iran's Mahan Air through flights to Yemeni airports without prior authorization from the Yemeni government. He also raised concerns over Houthi efforts to establish direct air links between Sana'a and Tehran, saying such moves would fuel renewed escalation and undermine regional security and stability.
The ambassador outlined measures taken by the Yemeni government to prevent unauthorized flights while highlighting initiatives aimed at easing the humanitarian burden on civilians living in Houthi-controlled areas.
He pointed in particular to the government's support for Jordan's proposal to operate regular flights between Sana'a and Amman through internationally recognized legal procedures, accusing the Houthi militia of blocking the initiative and prolonging the suffering of Yemeni citizens.
Al-Duais also reviewed government initiatives designed to alleviate hardships in Houthi-controlled areas, including efforts to facilitate the payment of public sector salaries. He reiterated the government's support for all initiatives that contribute to improving humanitarian conditions and advancing security and stability in Yemen.
For his part, Secretary-General Ambassador Abdel Sattar Issa reaffirmed Lebanon's support for the Yemeni government and its efforts to safeguard the country's sovereignty.
He also expressed backing for measures aimed at ending the suffering of the Yemeni people, restoring government authority across the country, and rebuilding state institutions.
