Technical teams from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have moved closer to finalizing plans for a breakwater project in the Zahaq area of the Socotra Archipelago, a key infrastructure initiative intended to improve safety for local fishermen.

Meeting by videoconference, the two sides reviewed the proposed engineering design, assessed technical observations, and examined the remaining marine, hydraulic, and geotechnical studies required before construction can proceed.

Engineers also evaluated alternative design options to ensure the structure meets safety and durability standards while providing a more secure mooring area for fishing boats operating from Zahaq.
