ADEN - SABA
The Minister of Industry and Trade Dr. Mohammed al-Ashwal held talks today, Monday, in the temporary capital Aden, with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Yemen Thomas Friedrich.
The bilateral relations and cooperation in trade was key focus of the talks.
Al-Ashwal looked for greater partnership in trade and industry businesses with Germany.
He highlighted the Ministry's need to benefit from German expertise in the domains of industrial development, economic reform, improving the business environment, and developing trade policies.
He also sought for training programs for the Yemeni caders, supporting the digital transformation process, digitizing the commercial register and simplifying export and import procedures.
"We're keenly seeking access to the European markets to export the Yemeni agricultural and fish products, namely coffee, honey, pomegranate, mango, grapes, and fisheries resources", al-Ashwal said.
The Minister called for supporting the development of value chains, establishing modern laboratories for quality testing and issuing internationally recognized compliance certificates, and organizing joint exhibitions linking exporters and importers in both countries.
Al-Ashwal highly praised the developmental role of German institutions, on top of them the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank, in supporting small and medium enterprises and training government cadres.
The German Ambassador affirmed his country's interest in supporting Yemen and enhancing cooperation with its government institutions.
Mr. Friedrich restated that Germany will continue the partnership with Yemen in the fields of economic development, capacity building and supporting sustainable growth.
