Yemen Participates in Parliamentary Meetings Supporting Palestine, the Asian Group
[15/04/2026 02:09]

ISTANBUL – SABA
The Republic of Yemen has participated in the Parliamentary Group Supporting Palestine during the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 217th Governing Council session (April 15–19) in Istanbul, with a delegation headed by Deputy Speaker Eng. Mohsen Ali Basurah.

The delegation affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains central despite Yemen’s challenges, highlighting continued Yemeni support for Palestine.

The delegation condemned violations against Palestinians, especially in Gaza—such as denial of aid, abuses against prisoners and harsh legislation—as breaches of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, and rejected any changes to the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.

Basurah called for freezing Israel’s parliamentary membership in international forums, support full recognition of the State of Palestine, halt military cooperation with Israel and implementing International Criminal Court decisions issued on November 24, 2024

It also urged legal action against entities supporting the occupation and expressed hope for outcomes to enhance the role of parliaments in supporting Palestine and promoting justice and peace.

Additionally, Yemen participated in the Asian Parliamentary Group coordination meeting, discussing enhanced cooperation and unified positions.

Parliament Member Shawqi Shamsan stated that Iran’s expansionist policies fuel conflicts and threaten regional security, citing its military support to the Houthis in Yemen, which has prolonged the war and worsened the humanitarian crisis.

He also highlighted Houthi violations against pro-legitimacy Yemeni MPs, including death sentences and property confiscation, calling on the IPU to take a clear stance condemning such actions and defending state sovereignty and stability.
