Yemen, Netherlands discuss human rights cooperation

Minister of Human Rights Mashdal Omar discussed Tuesday via video conference with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Yemen Jeannette Seppen ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in human rights issues.

Minister Omar reviewed the ministry’s priorities and the challenges facing its work, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with friendly countries and civil society organizations to support efforts aimed at improving the efficiency of human rights work.

He also highlighted government steps to close unofficial detention centers and address the conditions of detainees, as well as ongoing efforts to follow up on the file of forcibly disappeared persons, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the principle of “all for all” in prisoner exchange efforts.

The minister further touched on the ministry’s participation in the Human Rights Council meetings in Geneva, stressing the importance of supporting national mechanisms to strengthen the response to human rights issues in Yemen.

For her part, the Dutch Ambassador affirmed her country’s commitment to supporting the ministry’s efforts and its readiness to continue coordination to enhance the protection of human rights.
