Taiz Deputy Governor Reviews Yemen Support Fund Interventions with Chemonics UK
[03/02/2026 02:30]
TAIZ-SABA
First Deputy Governor of Taiz Governorate, Dr. Abdulqawi Al-Mikhlafi, met today with the Director of the Yemen Support Fund Program at the British organization Chemonics, Ghada Al-Attar, to discuss planned interventions and programs scheduled for implementation during the coming phase.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Mikhlafi reviewed the overall economic, developmental, social, political, and security conditions in the governorate, noting that the war has comprehensively targeted infrastructure across all sectors. He highlighted the extensive damage sustained by the water sector and the militias’ deliberate cutting of water supplies to the city, which has resulted in a prolonged water crisis, as areas previously under militia control had supplied approximately 80 percent of Taiz’s water needs.

The Deputy Governor pointed out that Taiz is characterized by high population density and has also received large numbers of internally displaced persons from militia-controlled areas, negatively affecting service delivery. At the same time, he noted the marked improvement in the security situation, early signs of recovery, and ongoing efforts toward achieving sustainable development.

Dr. Al-Mikhlafi also reviewed the relationship between the local authority and the Reconciliation Committee, as well as the level of coordination between them in resolving numerous criminal, political, and community-related cases that require the committee’s intervention. He commended Chemonics’ support for the Reconciliation Committee and its assistance in enabling it to carry out its role.
