[06/01/2026 05:09]

RIYADH – SABA
The Chairman of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr discussed Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin, the latest national developments and the political and security situation in Yemen.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Council Dr. Abdullah Abu Al-Ghaith, the two sides reviewed the recent developments in Hadhramout and al-Mahrah governorates resulting from the actions of the Transitional Council forces, and the unilateral measures they have taken that have undermined the foundations of the national state and threatened the security and future of the Yemeni people, as well as the security of the region as a whole.

They also discussed the negative impact of these acts on national unity and on efforts to restore the state and enhance stability

The meeting also discussed ways to unify regional and international efforts to support constitutional legitimacy and confront the threats posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to the security and stability of Yemen and the region, in addition to the importance of strengthening international coordination to support the peace process and restore state institutions.

Dr. bin Daghr affirmed that the governorates of Hadhramout and al-Mahrah have the full right to manage their own affairs and maintain their security and stability, away from any authoritarian measures or attempts to impose a fait accompli, stressing the importance of respecting the unique character of these two governorates and the will of their people within the framework of the unified Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation for the fraternal positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its swift response to the transitional military move rebelling against legitimacy, as well as its prompt response to the request of His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, and its readiness to host a South–South dialogue.

He emphasized that this step represents an important opportunity to take a constructive step forward toward preparing an inclusive national path to address the Southern Issue in a spirit of responsibility and partnership, ensuring broad participation of various southern components and figures without exclusion.

The Chairman of the Shura Council stressed that the Southern Issue is a just cause and a national demand that requires fair and comprehensive solutions, affirming that it must not be reduced or monopolized by a single party or political component, but rather should reflect the aspirations of all the people of the South within the framework of the Yemeni state and its national project.

Dr. bin Daghr underscored the importance of the role played by the United States in supporting Yemeni legitimacy, enhancing stability, and pushing toward a just and sustainable peace that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people, praising the supportive positions of the United States toward legitimacy, Yemen’s unity, security, stability and sovereignty.

For his part, the U.S. Ambassador renewed his country’s commitment to supporting Yemen and its constitutional legitimacy, and its keenness to work with regional and international partners to support peace efforts and achieve lasting stability.
