The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has welcomed a prisoner swap agreement signed in Muscat, Oman, aimed at releasing a number of prisoners and detainees in Yemen.
In a statement, Arab League spokesperson Jamal Rushdi said, "The agreement represents an important humanitarian step that should be followed up and reinforced with further initiatives to release more prisoners and abductees in Yemen."
Aboul Gheit praised the mediation efforts of Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in reaching this significant agreement. He expressed hope that the deal would pave the way for suitable conditions to comprehensively address the Yemeni crisis.
