"MASAM” Removes 4,726 Mines and Explosives in November and Clears More Than 74 Million Square Meters

The Operations Room of the “MASAM” project for mine clearance in Yemen announced that from the beginning of November until the 28th of the month, its teams succeeded in removing 4,726 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices.

According to a statement published by the MASAM Media Office, engineering teams during the same period removed 4,070 unexploded ordnance, 616 anti-tank mines, 23 anti-personnel mines, and 17 improvised explosive devices, as part of the project’s intensified operations in several mine-contaminated areas across Yemen.

The Operations Room also explained that MASAM teams alone removed 961 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices last week. In the third week of November, the teams cleared 862 unexploded ordnance,92 anti-tank mines, 6 anti-personnel mines, and one improvised explosive device.

The MASAM statement added that engineering teams successfully cleared 413,778 square meters of land in Yemen last week, bringing the total area cleared since the beginning of November to 1,658,647 square meters.

The General Director of the “MASAM” project in Yemen, Osama al-Qusaibi announced that from the project’s launch in late June 2018 until November 28 of this year, the teams have removed 526,460 mines, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices across the affected Yemeni governorates.

Al-Qusaibi explained in a statement that during the same period, the teams removed 362,674 unexploded ordnance and 8,329 improvised explosive devices as part of the project’s efforts to reduce mine risks and protect civilian lives.

He added that the engineering teams also removed148,465 anti-tank mines and 6,992 anti-personnel mines, which pose the greatest threat to the lives, roads and farmlands of local residents.

Regarding clearance operations, al-Qusaibi confirmed that from the project’s launch until November 28, 2025, MASAM succeeded in clearing an estimated 74,072,251 square meters of Yemeni land.

He pointed out that these vast secured areas have helped revive entire regions and enabled thousands of families to return to their villages and farms.
