Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, launched a roundtable discussion to update the National Water Sector Strategy and Investment Program (NWSSIP III) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The meeting aims to establish a consensus on the scope, objectives, and methodology of the update, and review and update the national reference framework for the water and environment sector since 2005.
Minister Sharjabi highlighted that the sector faces significant challenges, including political and geographical division, limited institutional capacities, weak water and climate information systems, and the suspension of the government investment program covering 45% of sector funding.
He emphasized that the update seeks to make the 2025-2030 national strategy an effective tool linking emergency humanitarian interventions with long-term development.
