Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Abdulrahman al-Maharami has stressed the importance of continuing American support for the government's efforts on to national reforms and economic recovery and supporting the Central Bank to enable it to perform its duties independently and efficiently, protect the currency and enhance financial stability.
During his meeting on Wednesday with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, al-Mahrami appreciated the effective US role in implementing the decision to ban weapons smuggled to the terrorist Houthi militias, stressing the importance of continuing security and intelligence coordination to enhance these successes.
The two parties discussed a number of issues of common interest, most notably political developments, economic reforms, counter-terrorism efforts and recent economic achievements that resulted in a significant improvement in the local currency exchange rate, which had a positive impact on food and consumer prices and contributed to alleviating the living burdens on citizens.
They also discussed joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremist groups and combat smuggling operations, especially arms and drug smuggling.
For his part, the US Ambassador praised the steps taken by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government regarding reforms and economic recovery.
He reiterated his country's commitment to supporting them to achieve further economic reforms and financial stability, which have contributed to stabilizing the local currency and alleviating citizens' suffering.
