The project will add 120 megawatts to the current operational capacity, increasing the total production capacity of the station to 240 megawatts upon the project's completion in 2026.
In the inauguration ceremony, al-Zubaidi expressed his congratulations to the people of the temporary capital Aden for laying the foundation stone for the second phase of the strategic energy project, which will add 120 megawatts to the previous station.
He expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the unlimited brotherly support provided by the UAE to Yemen in the energy sector and other development sectors.
Maj. General al-Zubaidi spoke after laying the foundation stone, saying, "On this joyous day, we initiated work on the solar power station in the governorate of Shabwa with a total capacity of 53 megawatts and we laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the expansion of the solar power station in the temporary capital Aden".
Al-Zubaidi added " This strategic project will alleviate the suffering of the people of Aden in the coming summer, and similar stations will follow in other governorates."
The Emirati Ambassador confirmed that the adoption of the second phase of the solar power plant, in the temporary capital Aden, came by the generous directives of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
The Chief Executive Officer of Global South Utilities Ali al-Shammari said" the project will be completed prior the upcoming summer in its second phase".
It is important to note that the project, being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, is the largest of its kind in the country and represents an important step towards enhancing reliance on renewable energy sources and reducing the consumption of imported fuel.
The second phase will generate about 247 thousand megawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to supply 687 thousand homes with electricity, and will also contribute to reducing approximately 142 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
With the completion of the first and second phases, the total reduction in emissions reaches approximately 285,000 tons annually, which is equivalent to the emissions produced by more than 85,000 cars.
The second phase includes the installation of more than 194,000 solar panels, a step that will enhance energy security in Yemen and improve air quality.
