Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Breik conducted intensive communications on Wednesday with leaders of local authorities impacted by the low-pressure system to assess the measures taken to deal with the impacts of heavy rains and flooding due to the weather conditions.
The Prime Minister listened to preliminary reports from the governors of Hadhramaut, Mabkhout Bin Madhi, Mahra, Mohammed Ali Yasser and Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, regarding the damage caused by the floods and heavy rains to public and private property, agricultural holdings, roads, infrastructure and essential services.
He also discussed coordinated efforts with relevant authorities and regional and international organizations to mitigate the impacts of the weather system, provide assistance and conduct rescue operations for impacted families.
The Prime Minister directed local authorities to coordinate with the relevant ministries and government agencies to raise readiness levels and enhance precautionary measures to reduce the effects of the weather system.
He praised the measures taken by local authorities in the impacted governorates concerning guidance and early warnings, deploying evacuation and rescue teams, opening public roads, ensuring the sustainability of essential services, and the need for community support for these efforts.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of learning from previous experiences in dealing with any consequences of climate change to address the impacts of the weather system and mitigate potential effects on citizens and public and private property.
He highlighted the necessity of prioritizing the protection of citizens, warning them to stay away from valleys and flood channels, and advising fishermen and sea-goers against traveling or sailing while taking maximum precautions.
