Yemen participated in the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2) to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from August 5 to 14, 2025.
The session aimed to finalize and approve the text of the agreement and forward it for consideration and adoption at a future Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries.
The Yemeni delegation, led by Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfik Al-Sharjabi, emphasized the country's commitment to protecting the environment and conserving natural resources amidst current environmental challenges. Al-Sharjabi highlighted the significant challenges facing Yemen's environment, including plastic pollution, which necessitate urgent and effective measures to ensure sustainable development and protect human health.
