Prime Minister receives World Bank Delegation
[13/07/2025 06:19]

ADEN - SABA
Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Breik welcomed the World Bank delegation currently visiting Aden, led by the Regional Director for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, Stefan Guimbert.

During the meeting, they discussed prospects for enhancing partnership, supporting the government's efforts and priorities in addressing economic, service, and developmental challenges, achieving financial and institutional stability, as well as the progress of ongoing projects and future plans.

They also focused on mobilizing support to finance the economic recovery plan and continue comprehensive reforms.

The meeting addressed mechanisms to revitalize partnership with the International Finance Corporation, implement projects in the electricity sector, and encourage local and foreign private sector investment in this vital sector.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the World Bank delegation's visit, highlighting its support for the government during these exceptional circumstances.

He noted the World Bank's assistance in economic, service, and developmental aspects, as well as institutional building, and expressed hopes for doubling this support, which is a fundamental pillar for overcoming accumulated crises, exacerbated by the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks on oil export ports.

The Prime Minister also touched on the urgent priorities the government is working on in economic and service sectors, primarily maintaining the stability of the national currency, improving local revenues, addressing imbalances in vital sectors such as electricity, water, and health, and protecting the most vulnerable groups through expanded cash and food support programs.

For his part, the head of the World Bank delegation reaffirmed the WB's commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and its economic and developmental priorities, as well as assisting its efforts in institutional capacity building and enhancing partnerships with the private sector. He emphasized the World Bank's eagerness to expand its programs in Yemen and work with the government.
