The Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Maj. General Faraj al-Bahsani met today, Tuesday, at the Presidential Palace in the city of al-Mukalla of Hadramout governorate, with the Head of the EU's Delegation in Yemen Gabriele Vinals, the French and Dutch Ambassadors to the Republic of Yemen Katharine Corm Kammoun and Jennette Seppen.
Al-Bahsani detailed the European diplomats on the developments in the national arena, underscoring Yemen's need for substantial European interventions to prop the economy and mitigate the humanitarian crisis which has been seriously exacerbated by the Houthis' terrorist attacks on the oil facilities and maritime shipping lanes.
He also touched upon the American administration's decision to re-designate the Houthi militias as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, underling the importance of adopting similar measures by the EU to mount pressures on the terrorist Houthis militias and drain the sources of financing and arming these militias in order to curb their hostile actions that proved threats to the regional and international security and stability, specifically the international marine navigation routes.
Al-Bahsani cited the ongoing efforts by the PLC to normalize the situations in the government-held governorates amid current tough circumstances, as the country has been denied some 7o percent of its main resources.
He also explained the PLC's efforts to carry out significant reforms in different fields, boost transparency and accountability as well as to control corruption.
The PLC's Member provided an overview about the prominent developments that Hadramout governorate has seen since over the recent years.
He recalled the hard times the governorate went through in 2015 when the terrorist al-Qaeda organization had taken control over the coastline cities.
Al-Bahsani highlighted the significant sacrifices made by the fellow citizens in Hadramout to drive al-Qaeda's militants out of the governorate on April 24, 2016 backed by the Arab Coalition forces led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The European Ambassadors restated that the EU is very keen to support the efforts of the PLC, the government and the UN to achieve security and stability in the region.
The also confirmed the commitment of the EU to carry out a number of projects in different fields in the government-held governorates including Hadramout.
