NEW YORK-SABA
Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, along with Council members Aidarous al-Zubaidi and Othman Mujalli, participated Sunday in the Summit of the Future 2024 sponsored by the United Nations, coinciding with the upcoming General Assembly's meetings that officially commence next Tuesday.
During the summit, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council will deliver a speech outlining the significant challenges brought about by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia's war, and its repercussions at various levels.
This includes the impact on Yemen's commitments related to the Millennium Goals and Sustainable Development, the priorities of the current phase in light of these repercussions, and the regional and international support needed to bolster the survival of the Yemeni people in their pursuit of a better future.
The high-level UN event aims to formulate a new international consensus on how to achieve a better present while ensuring the protection of the future, accelerating efforts to meet current international commitments, and taking tangible steps to respond to challenges and seize emerging opportunities.
This is in light of the escalating challenges of the 21st century and the rapid changes facing humanity, including wars, conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, and accelerating technological developments.
The summit's activities focus on five main pathways: sustainable development and financing, peace and security, a digital future for all, youth and future generations, and global governance, along with other topics intersecting with UN initiatives, including human rights, gender equality, and the climate crisis.
At the conclusion of the summit, agreements will be issued and ratified by the participating countries, including the "Future Charter," the "Global Digital Charter," and the "Declaration for Future Generations."
The "Future Charter" includes chapters on sustainable development and financing for development; international peace and security; science, technology, and innovation, as well as digital cooperation; youth and future generations; and global governance.
The "Global Digital Charter" aims to bridge the digital divide, being the first global agreement on artificial intelligence technologies, laying the groundwork for the establishment of an international platform centered on the UN that brings all parties together.
Meanwhile, the "Declaration for Future Generations" will focus on obligating leaders to consider the future when making their decisions.
