U.S. approves $7.2 billion sale of F-35 fighter jets to Romania

WASHINGTON-SABA
The United States has agreed to sell more than 30 F-35 fighter jets to NATO member Romania in a deal worth up to $7.2 billion.

The proposed deal supports the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe.

The contract, which still needs to be approved by the U.S. Congress, covers Bucharest's purchase of 32 F-35A jets made by U.S. aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin.
