Bangladesh's president Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the country's parliament on Tuesday, one day after student protests toppled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and forced her to leave the country.

"The decision to dissolve parliament was issued by the president hours after he met with student leaders demanding a deadline to be set to dissolve the parliament and form an interim government," spokesman for the Bangladeshi presidency, said in a statement.
