Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhybeh discussed with Representative of the United Nations Fund for Population Inshrah Ahmed on Thursday a number of topics associated with health affairs.

The meeting touched upon organizing the work of social midwives, who are being trained by the fund in government health institutes and the possibility of including them in the ministry's cadre, as well as discussing contribution of the fund in updating the curricula of Dr. Amin Nasher Higher Institute for Health Sciences.

The meeting touched upon preparations for implementing the motherhood and childhood health campaign and technical preparations to carry out the survey of maternity mortality.

Minister Buhybeh confirmed importance of the role of social midwives in providing healthcare and contributing in alleviating maternity and childhood mortality.

He pointed out that the Medical Council will be directed not to give professional licences if the midwife is not graduated from a government institute.
