The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reiterated its full support for the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) chaired by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi to achieve security and stability in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution, in accordance with the GCC' Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference and International Security Council resolution 2216, in a way that preserves the sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and independence of Yemen.
In its statement issued after its meeting at its 160th session, held today, Sunday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, the Council welcomed the continued sincere efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to revive the political process, achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in Yemen.
The Ministerial Council reiterated its support for the UN-led efforts by its Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the three well known peace references.
it also called for taking a firm stance towards the practice of the Houthi militias, which contradicts the efforts of the UN and the countries of the region to bring peace to Yemen.
The GCC's Ministerial Council condemned the continued foreign interference in Yemen's internal affairs and the smuggling of military experts and weapons to the Houthi militias in clear violation of Security Council resolutions 2216, 2231 and 2624.
