Minister of Water and Environment Tawfeeq al-Sharjabi met Tuesday with the Head of the Climate Change, Water, Environment, and Energy Sector at the United Nations Development Program Salio Tory and his accompanying team to discuss areas of joint coordination between the ministry and the development program.
During the meeting, they discussed several topics related to projects and programs within the framework of our country's allocations under the eighth update of the Global Environment Facility.
These include projects for adapting the water and agriculture sectors, supporting livelihoods in Shabwa and Abyan governorates, as well as the education sector project for adapting to rising temperatures in several provinces.
Additionally, they discussed the renewable energy project with the mitigation fund.
The two parties discussed the progress in preparing the fourth national report, the second reporting report, the proposed national plan for climate change adaptation, the national low-emission development strategy, the integrated water resources management project for the Mukalla Coast, sea-water desalination studies in the temporary capital Aden, and other joint projects and programs.
Minister al-Sharjabi emphasized the need to double efforts to complete projects within the specified timeframe for each project, according to the required specifications, standards, and conditions.
He also stressed the importance of completing projects that have sufficient funding, particularly those that contribute to implementing the ministry's urgent priorities to meet the needs of citizens and alleviate their suffering.
For his part, the UN official provided a detailed explanation of the ongoing and planned works, projects, and implemented plans, particularly the integrated water management project for the Delta Tuban Basin and its potential contributions in the water sector, including drinking water supply, agriculture, and supporting local communities in four districts of Lahj and Taiz governorates to access drinking water and harvest rainwater.
He pointed out to rehabilitation of irrigation channels in the Wadi Tuban Basin, as well as the progress in the study of seawater desalination for the city of Aden.
He affirmed the continued coordination and cooperation with the ministry to achieve the desired goals.
