Humanitarian League calls on High Commissioner to pressure Houthis to release all journalists
[15/09/2022 01:15]
Geneva – Saba
The Humane League for Rights called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to pressure the Houthi militia to release all journalists detained in its prisons and provide them with access to health care, especially Akram Al-Walidi, Abdul-Khaleq Omran, Harith Hamid, and Tawfiq Al-Mansoori, who have been arbitrarily detained in their prisons since 2015.

In a speech delivered by Tawfiq Al-Sharabi today at the plenary session before the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Human Rights Council in the Swiss city of Geneva, the organization stressed that the Houthi militias have adopted repressive policies against journalists and opinion leaders in Yemen.

The League indicated that the Houthi militias have arbitrarily arrested journalists Akram Al-Walidy, Abdul-Khaleq Omran, Harith Hamid, and Tawfiq Al-Mansoori, without charge or trial, and practiced a number of violations against them, such as arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, and physical and moral torture. In the year 2020, they were sentenced to death and were transferred to the Central Security Prison and deprived of health care and visits to their relatives.
