[29/06/2022 03:29]
New York – Saba
The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, met in New York today with the Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba.

Al-Saadi expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the efforts made by the representative of the Secretary-General and her team in the field of preventing and combating child recruitment, stressing the government’s full readiness to continue providing support and cooperation to ensure the prevention of the recruitment of children in the conflict and the preservation of their rights, while the Houthi militias are recruiting thousands of children, training them in so-called summer camps, brainwashing their minds with sectarian ideas and concepts of hatred, and deploying them on the battlefronts.

He reviewed the efforts made by the Yemeni government to preserve and maintain children's rights and hold violators accountable, including preventing the recruitment of child fighters in any form.

He also noted the progress made by the Yemeni government in this regard, and the steps it has taken to implement the action plan and road map signed between the Yemeni government and the United Nations, and the formation of a specialized unit in the Yemeni armed forces to prevent the recruitment of underage people.
