Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Supreme Economic Council, Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik, stressed the need to unite efforts to face the negative repercussions of the global outbreak of coronavirus on the national economy.
He made the remarks while chairing a meeting of the Supreme Economic Council, today, to discuss the latest economic ramifications resulting from the outbreak of the global pandemic and its impact on the national economy.
The meeting discussed the monetary policies necessary to maintain the stability of currency exchange, the food and drug supply, how to provide and store the necessary reserves, priorities of public spending, and how to meet health and economic expenditures.
The Prime Minister indicated that the ceasefire declaration by the Arab Coalition and the response of the political leadership to the ceasefire call by the UN Secretary-General confirms the seriousness and commitment of the legitimate government to uniting efforts in facing the risk of a coronavirus outbreak.
Finance Minister Salem bin Brik briefed the Supreme Economic Council, with a report on the state of public finances, state revenues, and the proposed measures to enhance them, in addition to public spending priorities and how to meet health and economic expenditures.
