Bin Mubarak: What happened in Yemen has been a coup led by ideological group
[12/09/2018 01:28]
NEW YORK-SABA
Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ahmad Awadh Bin Mubarak expressed regret over UN envoy's unclear descriptions and loose phrases to justify Houthi rebel militia behavior and imposing preconditions for hindering their participation in the peace round.

"Any collusion or incredibility in characterizing what happened and happens in Yemen will never help end this crisis because what happened simply is not a conflict between parties as some want to describe, rather it is a coup on the constitutional legality elected by the majority of the Yemeni people after an inclusive settlement followed by inclusive National Dialogue," said Bin Mubarak in a release for the Republic of Yemen delivered before the UN Security Council's open session on Tuesday.

"It is a coup led by armed ideological group seeing themselves above Yemeni people and believes in the right of the rule in accordance to the divine selection theory," he confirmed.

He added that the government of Yemen- and before its delegation headed to Geneva- has confirmed giving priority to measures of building confidence agreed upon earlier in Biel Consultations in 2015, focusing on realizing prisoners and detainees and ensuring access to humanitarian assistances.

Bin Mubarak made it clear that Houthis have been trying to impose preconditions to hinder their participation in every round of peace rounds and undermining efforts of the UN envoy by creating crises and hindering practices despite flexibility and logistic facilitations provided by the UN envoy and the Arab Coalition.

He repeated the government's call to the UN and the Security Council to shoulder responsibility and implement the International Resolutions and force this rebel group to surrender to the will of the Yemeni people and international community's desires for reaching a sustainable peace solution based on the three references; the GCC Initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and the UN Security Council's Resolution 2216.

He confirmed that the government of Yemen provided and will provide all support to the UN envoy for gathering the government's delegation with the coupist party after absence for more than two years and permanent readiness for participation in any effort for reviving peace for regaining the state and upending the coup.

Bin Mubarak reminded Security Council with the letter of the government to the council on Houthi Delegation's meeting with Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrullah before holding the consultations warning of negative effect on the consultations.
