Cabinet Declares Permanent Session Over Houthi Escalation
[13/07/2026 02:46]
ADEN-SABA

Yemen's Cabinet held an extraordinary meeting on Monday in the temporary capital, Aden, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Shaya Zindani to discuss the dangerous developments resulting from the continued escalation by the Houthi militia, including the arrival of a new Iranian flight at Sana'a International Airport, which is under the group's control.

The Cabinet said the flight represented a blatant challenge to Yemen's national sovereignty, a clear violation of international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and a direct threat to Yemen's security and regional stability.

The Cabinet said the government had decided to declare a permanent session to follow developments and take the necessary decisions and measures to protect state sovereignty and deter any threats targeting the country's supreme interests, after exhausting all initiatives and facilitation measures aimed at preventing further escalation in Yemen and the region.

It added that the decision came amid the Houthi militia's continued rejection of legal solutions and its pursuit of external intervention.

The Cabinet approved the formation of a government crisis management team to coordinate and manage military, political, diplomatic, legal and media efforts. The team will continuously monitor developments, submit periodic reports, unify government efforts and ensure rapid decision-making and effective responses to emerging challenges.

The Cabinet directed the Ministries of Defense and Interior, along with all relevant authorities, to raise the highest levels of readiness and preparedness, and enable the armed forces and security agencies to carry out their constitutional duties in protecting the sovereignty of the Republic, defending its airspace, territory and border crossings, and preventing any attempts to undermine state authority or impose realities that violate the Constitution, national law and international legitimacy resolutions.

The Cabinet tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates with intensifying communications and diplomatic efforts with brotherly and friendly countries, as well as regional and international organizations, urging them not to allow their airspace, territories or facilities to be used for flights to Yemen outside officially approved channels.
