Minister of Finance Marwan bin Ghanem held a virtual meeting Tuesday with the US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin.
He discussed with him latest economic and financial developments and the government’s efforts to continue implementing a comprehensive economic reform program aimed at stabilizing and improving the national economy.
The meeting addressed the role of US support in suooorting the government’s efforts to confront the economic and financial challenges facing Yemen amid the current difficult circumstances.
It also covered support through international institutions, particularly the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, including the recent resumption of Article IV consultations with the IMF.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed possible ways to reschedule the Republic of Yemen’s debt to Paris Club countries in the upcoming phase, within the framework of existing cooperation agreements.
The Minister also highlighted the generous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemen, which has contributed to easing the severity of economic crises and improving service and living conditions.
The Minister of Finance emphasized the importance of continued U.S. and international institutional support for Yemen during the current stage to assist the government in implementing a package of reforms in public finance management, revenue collection, infrastructure development, and the preparation and execution of plans capable of addressing the significant challenges facing the country.
Minister bin Ghanem also reaffirmed the importance of the announced Saudi support package for backing the state budget and fuel supplies, which has helped improve the economic and living conditions of citizens.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving economic recovery.
