Yemen, Russia discuss enhancing economic relations

Minister of Oil and Minerals Dr. Said al-Shammasi discussed Tuesday with Vasily Gubarev, Deputy Head of the Russian Federation Mission to Yemen, ways to develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries to achieve mutual interests and open wider horizons for joint cooperation.

The meeting addressed the ongoing preparations for the Yemeni-Russian Joint Committee meeting scheduled for the last week of September in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia.

Minister al-Shammasi praised the historical relations between Yemen and Russia, emphasizing the importance of building them at this stage to establish strategic partnerships based on trust and mutual understanding.

He highlighted the importance of resuming the work of the Yemeni-Russian Economic Business Council, considering it an effective framework to support partnership between the business communities of both countries and expand trade exchange by opening a direct shipping line between Yemeni and Russian ports to facilitate trade movement.

He also noted the necessity of reopening the Russian consulate in the temporary capital, Aden, as it would help facilitate visa issuance and enhance communication between the two parties.

For his part, the Deputy Head of the Russian Mission expressed his country’s eagerness to strengthen partnerships with Yemen in various fields, confirming the Russian party's interest in actively participating in the upcoming committee meeting and working to enhance economic relations between the two countries.
