The government welcomed the results of the agreement between the government delegation and the Houthis, which resulted in the release of 887 prisoners and abductees from both sides, 181 of whom were in favor of the government and the coalition, including Major General Mahmoud al-Subaihi, Major General Nasser Hadi, Muhammad Muhammad Abdullah Saleh, Afash Tariq Saleh and the four journalists, and 19 from the coalition.
In a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the results of the meeting of the supervisory committee concerned with the agreement to exchange prisoners, detainees, missing persons, arbitrarily detained, forcibly disappeared persons, and persons under house arrest, which was held in the Swiss city of Bern from 10 to 20 March 2023 under the auspices of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in which the two parties reached the implementation of the first phase of the exchange agreement that was reached in March 2022 with the immediate release of 887 detainees from both sides.
The statement stressed that the supervisory committee team, in accordance with the directives of the Presidential Leadership Council, dealt seriously and with full responsibility with this important humanitarian file to release the largest possible number of prisoners and detainees, with the aim of reuniting hundreds of families with their long-awaited families.
The government called for the continuation of the work of the joint committee and the completion of agreement on the details of the remaining prisoners and abductees, in accordance with the principle of all for all.. stressing the need to allow mutual visits for everyone without exception, especially those remaining covered by Security Council Resolution No. 2216, and the need to reveal the fate of the disappeared. forcibly.
The statement appreciated the role played by the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as the efforts made by the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
