SAYOON-SABA
In an extraordinary session held in Yemen's eastern city of Saoon on Saturday Yemen's parliament unanimously elected Sultan al-Barakani a new speaker.
It also elected Mohammed al-Shaddadi, Mohsen Ba-Surrah and Abdulaziz Jubari as vice speakers. The parliament's session, the first in years, was attended by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and senior other state officials.
The new speaker said the House of Representatives had, according to the relevant constitutional articles, to convene in Sayoon as a Yemeni city other than the Houthi-controlled capital Sana'a.
He thanked Hadi for calling on the parliament to convene and appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik's government and the Arab Coalition to facilitate the session.
