Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Najeeb al-Awj has confirmed that activating custom authority's offices in main outlets in liberated provinces reflect clear indicators that the economic file goes in accordance with planned programs.

In a meeting with leadership of Custom Authority here on Sunday, he pointed out that custom authority is one of the sovereign authorities which play significant role in supporting national economy, calling for abiding by regulations and laws concerning the authority's performance.

The authority leaders and directors of offices in liberated provinces, businessmen, commerce and industry chamber and Metrology and Standards Authority discussed in two days two workpapers on challenges facing the authority and its role in facilitating trade, travel and transport and the role of anti-smuggling offices in facilitating trade activities.

Deputy Minister of Finance Salem Bin Buraik stressed doubling efforts for improving custom activities and implementing its activities as demanded for helping realize tax growth in different activities of the custom outlets.

He issued directives of not allowing any irrelevant body to interfere in the authority's affairs.

The participants confirmed commitment of implementing and unifying custom measures and finalizing all tax and custom fees in accordance to the custom law and reporting monthly on price changes.

The meeting members highlighted establishing joint operational rooms between custom authorities and security and military units,as well as opening Dhu Bab Custom outlet in Taiz and establishing Ras al-Arah Custom office in Lahj for boosting monitoring and security measures aiming at deterring smuggling.

The meeting parties also recommended continuation of internal and external training and qualification for raising skills of works and raising financial bonuses to employees for ensuring decent livelihoods and settling issues of transitional employees in custom outlets.

They also recommended drafting a decision for imposing test fees services by ex-rays for the purpose of operating and maintenance work of ex-rays machines and elaborating machinery examination.
