The National Committee for Verifying Human Rights Violations said it tracked, documented and verified the occurrence of 407 claimed civilian abuses during the month of May 2017.
These 407 cases, the committee said, included 44 arbitrary detentions; 132 civilian killings by indiscriminate attacks; 123 injuries of other persons; 40 demolitions of private properties, 20 bombings of houses, 14 planting of anti-personnel landmines, 3 cases of torture, 5 extrajudicial executions, 10 forced disappearances, five cases of forcible displacements, six cases of child soldier recruitments; and two attacks on intellectuals and medical crews.
The Committee said it verified into the abuses occurred in Taiz from 21 to 31 May 2017 as a result of indiscriminate shelling on Salah, al-Qahirah and al-Modhaffar areas in Taiz which incurred 167 casualties, 70 of the victims children.
The Committee's verification means deploying observers who "visited the scene of the said events for close inspection and verification with forensic military experts and visits to hospitals to collect testimonials from the wounded, the relatives of the killed and the doctors."
While regretting the continuity of such incidents and fall of innocent victims, the Committee urged the warring sides to abide by the international humanitarian law and sparing the civilians the danger of attacks in populated areas.
