The Executive Director of Safer Exploration and Production Operations Company Eng. Salem Kaaiti discussed Monday with the German Ambassador to Yemen Thomas Schneider a number of issues related to the energy sector and the challenges facing the company amid the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing.

At the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by the Deputy German Ambassador, Sophia Hertzberg, the Director of the Yemen Gas Company Eng. Mohsen Bin Wahit and the Deputy Executive Director of Safer Company Ghaleb Mabkhout Muaili, Eng. Kaaiti welcomed the German Ambassador and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and partnership with international friends in a way that supports the energy sector and contributes to enhancing the capabilities of national companies to address current challenges.

The Executive Director reviewed the vital role played by Safer Company in the oil and gas sector and the efforts it continues to make to maintain operational continuity despite existing difficulties.

He highlighted the major obstacles facing the company as a result of the suspension of petroleum products and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, as well as the resulting negative economic and operational impacts.

He also noted the repercussions on maintenance and modernization activities, development plans, expansion projects, and the preservation of oil and gas infrastructure.

Eng. Kaaiti stressed that the continuation of the current situation imposes significant burdens on both the company and the national economy as a whole.

He pointed out that the oil and gas sector represents a fundamental pillar of the economy and a major source of public revenue, underscoring the need for coordinated local and international efforts to support the stability of the energy sector and enable it to fulfill its developmental and economic role.

The meeting also addressed the importance of benefiting from Germany’s leading expertise in renewable energy, exploring opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building to support the development of Yemen’s energy sector.

The discussions also focused on mechanisms for utilizing modern technologies in the field to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, keep pace with global trends toward clean energy, and promote environmental sustainability in accordance with modern international standards and best practices.

The participants further discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and benefit from investment opportunities in the energy sector, including the potential expansion of renewable energy use and the exchange of expertise and experiences in this field, contributing to sustainable development and improving the efficiency of Yemen’s energy sector.

For his part, the German Ambassador expressed interest in learning more about the conditions of the oil and gas sector and the challenges it faces.

He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting development initiatives and enhancing opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

He also praised the role played by Safer Company in serving the Yemeni economy and reiterated the importance of maintaining communication, coordination, and efforts to explore new avenues of cooperation that serve common interests and support development efforts in Yemen.
