Yemen, France Review Ways to Strengthen Academic and Research Cooperation

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Amin Numan, held discussions on Tuesday in Aden with French Ambassador to Yemen Catherine Corm-Kammoun on expanding cooperation in higher education, scientific research, and academic exchange.

The meeting reviewed the situation of Yemen’s universities and research institutions, with particular focus on the difficulties they are facing, especially in infrastructure development and institutional capacity.

Both sides emphasized the importance of modernizing higher education systems, strengthening accreditation and quality assurance frameworks, and updating academic programs to better align with evolving local and international labor market needs.

They also highlighted the value of benefiting from European experience in harmonizing curricula, developing specialized academic fields, and improving the skills and capabilities of students and researchers.

Dr. Numan reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding cooperation with France and leveraging French expertise in education and research. He stressed the need to activate joint academic programs and strengthen institutional ties between Yemeni and French universities to broaden opportunities for scientific collaboration and exchange.

He further noted that the ministry is working on development plans aimed at improving the quality of higher education, reinforcing accreditation systems, and expanding partnerships with international academic institutions.

For her part, the French ambassador reaffirmed France’s continued support for Yemen in the fields of education, culture, and scientific research, expressing readiness to back initiatives that enhance higher education and promote academic cooperation, research partnerships, and scholarship opportunities.
