The Republic of Yemen participated in the International Conference on Innovations and Technology for Mine Action and Recovery, held in Tokyo, Japan. The conference was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Yemen's Ambassador to Japan, Adel Al-Sunaini, led the Yemeni delegation at the conference. In his speech, Ambassador Al-Sunaini expressed Yemen's interest in benefiting from technological innovations and experiences in mine removal.
He emphasized the importance of providing assistance to mine clearance teams, funding awareness campaigns about the dangers of mines, and supporting programs for mine victims and land rehabilitation.
The conference discussed technological solutions and innovations to enhance the efficiency and safety of mine action procedures, as well as efforts to promote cooperation between international partners to support initiatives that link humanitarian action, development, and peace.
The participants also explored ways to frame mine action as a driver for sustainable socioeconomic recovery and development.
The conference provided a platform for Yemen to highlight its needs and challenges in mine action and to seek international support for its efforts to address the humanitarian crisis caused by landmines.
