Turkish Central Bank lowers interest rate to 39.5 percent

The Central Bank of Turkey lowered today, Thursday, the interest rate by 100 basis points from 40.5 percent to 39.5 percent on one-week repo operations.

According to the Turkish news agency (Anadolu), this is based on a decision made by the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee during a meeting chaired by Central Bank Governor Şahap Kavcioglu.

The committee decided to reduce the overnight lending interest rate from 43.5% to 42.4% and the overnight borrowing interest rate from 39% to 38%, noting that the tight monetary policy will continue until price stability is achieved and will work to further reduce inflation.
