The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar al-Eryani and the President of Socotra Archipelago University Professor Dr. Ahmed al-Jouna signed Wednesday a joint cooperation agreement in the city of Hadibo.
This agreement comes in implementation of the outcomes of Minister al-Eryani's meeting with the university leadership and as a translation of his directives regarding the establishment of an academic program for a Bachelor's degree in Tourism and Hospitality at Socotra Archipelago University.
Minister al-Eryani emphasized that the cooperation between the ministry and the university aims to improve the quality of academic education in the field of tourism and develop it to meet the needs of the labor market, enhance tourism awareness among students and the academic community, and achieve sustainable development in the tourism sector, as the island has become a destination for tourists from all over the world.
Al-Eryani praised the role played by the leadership of Socotra University in the qualification and training of tourist guides.
He noted that the course launched in collaboration between the ministry and the university in this field, which lasts for a month to train 30 tourist guides, marks the beginning of cooperation between the two parties.
The agreement stipulates enhancing cooperation between both parties in the field of tourism, academic education and scientific research, developing academic and vocational programs to support the tourism sector, and providing scientific and practical solutions to improve and develop the local tourism environment, as well as establishing joint research projects related to it, in addition to training and qualifying human resources in the field of tourism.
The agreement also states that the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism shall provide logistical support to implement the provisions of this agreement, facilitate access to data and information related to the tourism sector, and support training and qualification programs.
Furthermore, the university is required to open academic programs in the tourism and hospitality sector, provide academic studies and scientific research, organize workshops and conduct training courses for tourism workers, offer academic consultations and propose developments for academic and educational curricula related to the tourism field.
