The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced today the designation of 21 individuals and entities, as well as the identification of one vessel, on the sanctions list for their involvement in transporting petroleum products, purchasing weapons and equipment and providing financial services to the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.

President al-Alimi receives US Ambassador

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received Wednesday here US Ambassador to Yemen Stephen Fagen.

The meeting touched upon latest developments in Yemen including Houthi terrorist militia's military escalation and major violations of human rights.

President al-Alimi was briefed by US ambassador on latest diplomatic communications regarding de-escalation in Yemen and the region and available choices to pressure Houthi terrorist militia to deal seriously with regional and international efforts to end suffering of the Yemeni people and stopping the militia's destruction of the rest State Institutions.

The meeting touched upon coordinated efforts with international community to release kidnapped UN employees and civil society leaders by Houthi terrorist militia, as well as developmental interventions to protect Yemen's humanitarian heritage.

President al-Alimi re-confirmed commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government with just peace approach in accordance with the locally, regionally and internationally agreed upon references, led by UN Security Council's Resolution 2216.

He pointed out to importance of integrating all these efforts with efforts of brothers in Saudi Arabia to release inclusive process under the UN.

He praised efforts of the United States in alleviating humanitarian suffering of Yemeni people and enhancing international mechanisms to intercept Iranian weapon shipments harming international security and peace.
