[24/07/2024 04:38]

ADEN - SABA
The Minister of Water and Environment Engineer Tawfiq al-Sharjabi discussed with a specialized team from the United Nations Development Program on Wednesday the topics related to the projects and interventions implemented by the program.

The two parties discussed the final results of the feasibility study for the establishment of four seawater desalination plants in the temporary capital Aden and discussed the appropriate technical and technological options.

The meeting with the participation of a national and international technical team, reviewed the aspects related to the study which included the selection of four sites for the optimal evaluation of the sites and three of them were selected, taking into account the decentralized option for the distribution of the stations.

Engineer al-Sharjabi praised the importance of the study project, which will provide a clear vision for the possibility of implementation, especially since the city of Aden may face a real water problem in the coming years, referring to the ongoing consultations with the Green Climate Fund to finance the implementation of the program.

Furthermore, the desalination project will be addressed before a number of donors, where a conference will be held to discuss seawater desalination in the city of Aden next October in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with a wide attendance of various local and international parties involved.

He stressed the need for the study to include a clear mechanism for partnership with the private sector to develop an integrated and coherent vision for the issue of water desalination in the temporary capital Aden and the coastal areas in general.
