[08/04/2024 12:07]
ADEN-SABA
Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhaybeh conducted Sunday a video call with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region Dr. Hanan Balkhy to discuss the health situation in Yemen.

During the call, the minister briefed the regional director on the health situation in the Republic of Yemen, emphasizing that Yemen is still experiencing a health emergency and should not be neglected by donors and international organizations.

Yemen is still facing difficult economic and health conditions along with ongoing challenges, he said.

The minister highlighted the increasing cases of cholera in several areas, which require intervention from the organization.

He stated that Yemen's healthcare system is still facing numerous challenges due to the continuous war and conflict since the terrorist Houthi militias' coup against the state, as well as the difficult economic situation and the influx of illegal immigrants.

He also pointed out that statistics indicate that over 97,000 illegal immigrants entered Yemen during the year 2023, which poses significant health challenges.

The call also touched upon other areas of health cooperation, and the regional director was invited to visit Yemen to assess the health situation in the country.

The regional director welcomed this invitation, reaffirming the organization's support for Yemen and stating that they will consider all requests from the ministry and work on addressing the issues raised by the minister.
