Maj. General al-Zubaidi confers with American Ambassador over national, regional developments
[08/02/2024 05:49]

ADEN - SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) Maj. General Aidarous al-Zubaid held discussions today, Thursday, with the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Steven Fagin over the latest developments in our country amid the persistent escalation by the Houthi militias in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden, and implications of the militias' reckless practices upon the humanitarian situations and the prospects for peace and de-escalation.

Al-Zubaid reiterated the PLC's stance that rejects the Houthis' military escalation in the maritime shipping lanes, noting that the Houthi militias' attacks on the commercial ships is an absurd war targeting our country's national and food security, worsening our people's humanitarian suffering, moreover it is targeting the region's and the world's interests.

The Member of the PLC called on the international community to should its responsibility about securityng the international maritime shipping lanes in this significant region of the world through supporting the internationally recognized government's armed forces to do their job, noting that air strikes are not sufficient to deter the militias and their reckless behaviors.

The American Ambassador stated that the American administration is very keen to secure the international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden.

Mr. Steven also stated that Washington is keenly seeking to establish a genuine peace in our country through an inclusive political process guided by the UN.
